The Falcon Armor is hilariously broken as shit making it a blast to fly around through stages. HOWEVER, Zero‘s moveset is tweaked and improved just enough over X4 that he feels even better to play as. Right away - the RNG of the endings is nonsense, and the Tidal Whale (RIP Duff McWhalen) stage is bad.

I leave you with Infinity Mijinion and Blaze Heatnix’s stage themes after my X series ranking thus far: X1 > X2 = X4 > X5 > X3 > X6 It’s the best collection of stage tunes since X1. The best part of X6 though? The fucking soundtrack. If you’re the type of person that a) feels like the whole game should be doable with just the Buster, b) hates getting hit, c) doesn’t like backtracking, and d) don’t like dying a lot I can see why you might hate this game. Stages requiring certain armors or parts in order to progress is out of the norm for Mega Man games but I think I could see what they were going for with the character building aspects they were experimenting with in this game I didn’t even find Blaze Heatnix’s stupid red wheels minibosses that bad, they’re pushovers with the right special weapons (Yammark Option works quite well and shields at the same time, which isn’t one I see recommended for it online very often).

Nightmare Effects didn’t generally bother me (not even the darkness on Rainy Turtloid, I have a huge TV I could see fine), only fireballs in Infinity Mijinion‘s secrets area were excessively frustrating. It would be a big improvement if losing one to a Nightmare Virus didn’t mean reloading your save or losing them forever. What does suck? Permanent corruption of Reploids. The two of these combined give the game more of an RPG-lite feeling in some ways. Saving Reploids is like finding CyberElves. The gathering of Nightmare Souls is a grind not unlike Energy Crystals in the Zero series. This is the first of the really infamously bad ones and.I don’t hate it? It’s mostly fine? It doesn’t feel that much more sadistic than Mega Man Zero 1. It’s not my favorite X game, but I do enjoy some aspects of it more than the overall better X4.Ĭurrently almost finished with X6.

I had so much fun with this I did separate full play throughs with X and Zero. The Hunter Ranking system is like a proto-version of the ranking system in the Zero series. X having multiple swappable armors was neat too. The mechanics around gathering parts are obtuse, but the game is nearly 2 decades old at this point and everything has been well researched and documented. Getting parts that tweak gameplay mechanics is a fun perk.

Delaying the timer to fight bosses at higher levels was a cool gimmick. Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection spurred me to go back and play the rest of the X Legacy Collections and experience the games I hadn’t ever played - namely X5-X8. X4-X8 are flawless as they're perfect ports so if you wanna play those games then don't even worry at all.īasically, XCL2/MMLC2 are perfect ports, XC1 is a good port with X1 being iffy, and MMLC is a YMMV situation since it took me hell of a while to play MM6 on Turbo after beating it on 3DS so many times. I still think XC1/2 are pretty great as well, though the SNES games are a tad off, moreso with MMX1 than 2/3, but I was still able to clear X2/X3 with no problems while X1 gave me a few. Avoid using the home menu and it's still a pretty great collection but MMLC2 is much tighter in general. However there's audio lag that Digital Eclipse wasn't able to submit that can be triggered by home buttoning the menu 20-30 times, and it's pretty bad. Turning it off makes it better though and they patched it to reduce it a bit more. The Switch MMLC collection had some lag due to the turbo mode which removes slowdown and causes a bit more lag, which can throw people off especially as things are faster.
